A number of projects, programs, and initiatives hosted at or affiliated with Miami University have been established to support the following objectives:

Teacher Education

American Classical League
Established to foster the study of classical languages in the United States and Canada, the American Classical League maintains a Teaching Materials and Resource Center that publishes and provides hundreds of teaching aids.

Digital Literacy Partnership
This partnership, formed to advance the understanding of health communication message design, provides access to three interdisciplinary databases, including the Children's Picture Book Database, the Health Literacy Database, and the Health Advocacy Database.

International Association for the Study of Cooperation in Education
IASCE is an international, non-profit organization for educators who practice cooperative learning in order to promote student academic improvement and democratic, social processes. In addition to disseminating information, IASCE provides a forum in which to share research.

Journal on Excellence in College Teaching
This peer-reviewed journal is published at Miami by and for faculty at universities and colleges to increase student learning through effective teaching, interest in and enthusiasm for the profession of teaching, and communication among faculty about their classroom experiences.

Lilly Conference on College Teaching
This national conference provides a forum for discussion of teaching and learning topics ranging from using technology to cooperative learning. Several nationally known teacher-scholars are featured at this annual weekend event.

Ohio Evaluation and Assessment Center
The mission of Ohio’s Evaluation & Assessment Center is to improve K-20 STEM education, and beyond, in Ohio and across the nation by collaborating with local, state, and national agencies, school districts, higher education institutions, professional development centers, and mathematics and science education groups to provide specialized evaluation, assessment, and research services which support the delivery of reliable and accurate information about the outcomes of academic program efforts, activities, and initiatives.

Ohio Writing Project
Committed to improving student writing, the OWP offers a full spectrum of student assessment programs and professional development for teachers of all grade levels and subject areas.

Project Dragonfly
Project Dragonfly at Miami promotes inquiry-driven reform, reaching millions of people worldwide through learning media, exhibits, and education programs. Project Dragonfly offers graduate courses and master's degree programs (the Global Field Program, the Advanced Inquiry Program, and Earth Expeditions); co-founded the Emmy-Award winning national PBS television series DragonflyTV, produced by TPT public television; and directs national exhibit projects (Wild Research, with the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, and iSaveSpecies, with a consortium of U.S. public learning institutions). Supported by the National Science Foundation, Project Dragonfly began by creating the first national magazine to feature the discoveries of young investigators.

Association for Interdisciplinary Studies
This interdisciplinary professional organization promotes the interchange of ideas among scholars and administrators in all of the arts and sciences on intellectual and organizational issues related to furthering integrative studies.

Economic History Services
Hosted by Miami and Wake Forest University, these services promote communication among scholars in economic history and related fields. Internet-based resources include a collection of course syllabi and access to various databases.

Scripps Gerontology Center
This research institution is dedicated to generating and disseminating aging-related knowledge in order to enhance the lives of older adults, improve the quality of intergenerational relationships, and meet the needs of an aging society. Scripps also administers Miami's academic programs in Gerontology.

Sigma Xi
This international scientific and research society was established to honor scientific accomplishments, encourage and enhance the worldwide appreciation and support of original investigation in science and technology, and foster a creative and dynamic interaction among science, technology, and society worldwide.

Conservation and Preservation

Archives & Archivists
Sponsored by the Society of American Archivists, this listerv is open to all archivists working to establish and maintain control over records of enduring value.

Audubon Miami Valley
Through newsletters, field trips, and education programs, this local chapter of the National Audubon Society works to conserve and restore natural ecosystems, focusing on birds, other wildlife, and their habitats.

Center for Environmental Education
The Center serves as a comprehensive resource for students, teachers, naturalists, and other Ohioans for enhancing their understanding of and appreciation for animal biodiversity, conservation, and ecology. Core components of the Center include the following:

• Hefner Museum of Natural History—Highlighting the animals of Southwest Ohio, this resource increases visitors' knowledge of animal natural history and sponsors programs that emphasize environmental education.

Oxford Museum Association
Committed to preserving the local heritage for the enjoyment of future generations, the Oxford Museum Association promotes awareness and appreciation of area history through education, public programs, and preservation of historic sites.

Community Outreach and Development

CraftSummer
CraftSummer is a series of hands-on craft and art related workshops taught at Miami by local, regional, and nationally known artists. Classes are offered in a variety of media and can be taken for credit. Anyone 18 years old or older with a high school diploma or its equivalent may register.
