Awards and Recognition
The following awards are given in recognition of outstanding scholarship, research, service, and dedication to Miami University.
Named for the 1852 Miami graduate who was president of the United States, the Benjamin Harrison Medallion Award honors members of Miami’s faculty who have made an outstanding national contribution to education.
The title of University Distinguished Professor is conferred upon those faculty members whose achievements unequivocally merit the recognition. University Distinguished Professors receive an annual stipend for conducting research and other professional activities.
The Distinguished Scholar Award celebrates the accomplishment of outstanding Miami researchers each year. Distinguished Scholars receive a grant for the pursuit of further research or creative endeavor.
The distinguised Service Award is the most significant recognition that Miami has to offer for employees who have made a significant impact on the life and mission of Miami Univeristy.
This award recognizes faculty whose achievements unequivocally merit the recognition for excellence in teaching. Up to four awards are given annually with up to one award for each of the four levels of Miami University faculty.
The Provost's Excellence in Academic Advising Award recognizes faculty and staff members who spend a significant portion of their time providing exemplary direct delivery of academic advising services to undergraduate students.
The Wilkins Fellows program provides a culturally diverse faculty member with mentoring, a salary equivalent to that of a Miami University faculty member at the same rank (instructor or visiting assistant professor), $4000 for research-related expenses, the potential of obtaining a future tenure-track faculty position at Miami University, and an opportunity to live and work in a welcoming community of enthusiastic scholars. During the 15-week (one semester) or 9-month (two-semester, full academic year) appointment, Wilkins Fellows conduct research and enjoy a one-course reduction in teaching load per semester.
The Provost's Student Academic Achievement Award (PSAAA) is given annually to students who have achieved an outstanding record of academic excellence. The selection committee reviews nominations and awards 10–15 students with a $1000 scholarship and certificate of recognition.
The excellence in Career Development Award recognizes faculty who actively support the development of the Miami University career community.
The tenure and promotion process involves rigorous evaluation by external reviewers, department faculty, program directors, chairs, deans, the divisional and university promotion and tenure committees, the Provost, the President, and final approval by the Board of Trustees.
