In 2012, the Scripps Gerontology Center conducted the sixth biennial Ohio Nursing Home Family Satisfaction Survey under a contract to the Ohio Department of Aging. The 2012 survey had the largest number of facilities participating at 99% and over 27,000 family and friends responding. Numerous changes were implemented, most importantly a process that no longer requires nursing homes to distribute surveys to family members.

The report includes information about the survey process, psychometric analysis of the survey, and recommendations for future implementation. The family satisfaction survey is one important component of the comprehensive nursing home information shown on the Ohio Long-Term Care Consumer Guide (www.ltcohio.org). Several components of the survey are also used as quality points in Ohio's nursing home Medicaid reimbursement formula.
