Lucas County Adult Guardianship Assessment Report

In 2019, Scripps Gerontology Center was contracted by the Lucas County Guardianship Exploratory Committee to assess adult guardianship service needs in Lucas County, Ohio. This report and accompanying research brief present findings from a community assessment of current guardianship services and needs in Lucas County, a review of existing guardianship operations utilized in comparably-sized Ohio counties, and recommendations for improving guardianship services in Lucas County.

This report highlights findings from a survey of the guardianship practices of Ohios probate courts. In a first of its kind survey, this study examined the challenges faced by the probate courts in managing guardianships, the resources used to support guardians and persons under guardianship, and the promising practices that have emerged as courts work to help persons under guardianship live a high-quality life and to help guardians be successful in executing their responsibilities.

This brief describes the pilot implementation and evaluation of OMA For One (OMA41). OMA41 is an adaptation of Opening Minds through Art (OMA), a visual arts program for elders with cognitive impairments.
