Scholarships

Thanks to the continued support of donors to the department we are able to award endowed scholarships to quite a number of our students each year. The scholarships are, with two exceptions, open to all majors housed in the English Department: Creative Writing, Literature, Linguistics, and Professional Writing.

Students will apply for all scholarships via a single application form.

Submission deadline is March 1, 2024.

General requirements and eligibility

  • Continuing students in a major housed in English only - applicants need to be enrolled during the academic year 2024/25.
  • Junior or higher standing by the beginning of fall 2024 is required (=a minimum of 62 earned credit hours).
  • Submit a written piece, complete paper or excerpt, 5-7 pages double-spaced or its equivalent.
  • Submit a brief contextualizing note.
  • File a FAFSA with the Office of Student Financial Assistance (this helps determine level of need for some scholarships).
