Welcome to the Department of Mathematics at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Our faculty come from all over the world and have a strong commitment to both research and teaching. The department has active research groups in various areas of Mathematics and Mathematics Education. It has played host to several national and international research conferences, in addition to the regional Fall Conference held every year. Please join us for any talks that may be of interest to you.
The department offers a plethora of courses at the undergraduate level, leading to majors in Mathematics (A.B. or B.S.) or in Mathematics and Statistics. Teacher licensure is also an option. Students may pursue a minor in Mathematics, which interfaces well with many other major programs. There are also opportunities for undergraduates to do supervised research under the direction of a faculty member.
The department has long been recognized for its high quality graduate programs. Presently, there are four degree programs offered, according to the specific interests of the individual student. Our students come from undergraduate institutions all over the country and world. The size of the department and the program affords graduate students the opportunity to work closely with faculty on individual projects.
