An Artist's Life with Vascular Dementia

Art as Therapy ~ the story of Harry Hansen

Lecture: Tuesday, October 28, 5:30 p.m.

Immutable Passion: An Artist’s Life with Vascular Dementia

Dee Hansen (wife) and Susan Hansen Staves (daughter)

When vascular dementia took its hold on Harry Hansen, an award-winning artist and art professor, the disease stole much of his identity. After a hiatus from artistic creation, his wife and daughter inspired him to use art as a therapeutic method to regain a creative and intellectual quality of life that lay dormant for half a decade.

HEAR this story from the artist's family then SEE his works in the gallery.

This lecture is connected to our current exhibition ~ Revealing the Light Within: The Healing Power of Expressive Arts

The world of expressive arts therapies will be explored in this historical overview and introduction to the power of healing through art, music, dance, drama, and creative writing. This exhibition is developed by an interdisciplinary panel consisting of faculty, students and healthcare professionals.

Open through December 6, 2014 ~ Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday Noon-5 p.m.
