CCA Scholars travel to Chicago

By Caroline Avolio, Theatre and Arts Management co-major

The CCA Scholars took a networking trip to Chicago, IL at the end of February, 2018 to meet creatives who live and work in "The City of Big Shoulders." The students, ranging from freshmen to seniors, represented every CCA major. The trip was sponsored and planned by faculty and staff from College of Creative Arts and the Center for Career Exploration and Success.

The Scholars began their weekend by arriving in the city, grabbing a quick bite to eat, and seeing Hamilton at the CIBC Theater. A few students had the opportunity to meet members of the cast at the stage door.

On the second day the group started the morning with a tour, workshop, and Q&A at The Second City. Afterwards, the advertising agency, Cramer-Krasselt, hosted a lunch and panel at their office for the Scholars, followed by a tour and panel at the Goodman Theatre, led by Miami Theatre alumnus Adam Belcuore ('96). The evening was capped off with an alumni dinner of Chicago-style pizza at Pizano's Restaurant.

Before trekking home on the third and final day, the Scholars had a Q&A at the Art Institute of Chicago, followed by a specialized tour of some of the museum's most popular collections, exhibits, and works.

Besides having a wonderful weekend overall, this trip helped many students make valuable networking connections for potential internship and employment opportunities, as well as learn more about this unique American city.
