Next stop: Virtual Construction Experience Specialist at Messer Construction Co. in Cincinnati.
This summer Maria will start working as a Virtual Construction Experience Specialist where she is excited to start implementing virtual reality into the construction process.
What will you be doing in your new position?
I am currently working as a Virtual Construction Experience Specialist at Messer Construction Co. In my position, I create VR and AR experiences that help others understand and interact with the construction process.
How did you find out about this opportunity?
I found out about Messer through LinkedIn. I was looking for jobs and messaged a woman, who is now my co-worker, asking about her job and what she does from day-to-day. After talking to her she mentioned me to her boss and told them I worked with VR so they brought me in for an interview and the rest is history!
What are you most proud of during your time at Miami?
During my time at Miami I grew so much as a designer. I learned to hone my skill set, but I also grew so much as a person and I am really proud of the skills, both technical and interpersonal, that I have achieved. I enjoyed many of the projects and work I did, but there are some specific ones that I am especially proud of because of what I learned while doing them and the final outcome.
What is something that you learned at Miami that you would like to share with incoming students?
One thing that I learned at Miami is that having someone to work with always makes the time go by much quicker, and it also increases the amount of effort I put in. My good friend Emily and I, towards the end of the semester when due dates were fast approaching, got into the habit of working in the computer lab for 3-4 hours and then going to Spring Street Treats afterward, sometimes in celebration, sometimes out of necessity.
