National Civil Rights Conference honors Miami
Singing We Shall Overcome, this group of Freedom Summer volunteers begins its journey from Oxford, Ohio to Mississippi. Despite the dangers, more than 1,000 college students volunteered to canvass, teach and establish community centers.Miami's Western College Alumnae Assn. and Ann Elizabeth Armstrong will receive 2017 Civil Rights and Social Justice awards from the National Civil Rights Conference.

Well known for his work in social justice and urban collaboration, Thomas A. Dutton, Miami University professor of architecture and founder of the university’s Center for Community Engagement (CCE) in Cincinnati, died June 13.

Building Empathy Through Experience
Graduate and undergraduate students in the Art Department's new Special Topics Studio carried out "standard," daily tasks while using wheelchairs, wearing eyeglasses that imitated cataracts, and other tools that simulated different challenges other people may face.

It Gets Better Project and Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles visit Miami
The Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles will visit Miami University for a weeklong residency from Feb. 20-25 culminating with a musical performance of “It Gets Better” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, in Hall Auditorium.
