Manufacturing Engineering
The Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree with a major in Manufacturing Engineering is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org.
Manufacturing Engineering deals with product and process design. It requires the ability to:
- Plan the practices of manufacturing
- Research and develop tools, manufacturing processes, machines and equipment, and control strategies
- Integrate the facilities and systems so that quality products can be produced at a competitive cost
The industry has a pressing need for academically qualified manufacturing engineers due to the fact that today's products and the technology to manufacture them have become increasingly more sophisticated. Examples of new manufacturing technologies being applied to increase productivity, improve quality, and reduce costs include computer-aided design, robotics, statistical process control, and computer-integrated manufacturing systems.
Graduates typically work as manufacturing engineers in areas such as product and process design, quality control, computer-aided manufacturing, and plant-facilities engineering. After having gained industrial experience in the above areas, graduates can move into technical management positions and/or continue their education at the graduate level. Graduating seniors are encouraged to take the Fundamentals of Engineering examination, which is the first of two examinations that lead to becoming a licensed professional engineer.

There is an option to double major in Manufacturing Engineering and Engineering Management as well as an option to double major in Manufacturing Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. For more information about these double major options, contact your faculty advisor.
