Purpose and Description

The purpose of the Intergroup Dialogue for Miami Faculty, Staff, and Administrators FLC is to forge an internal partnership of faculty, staff, and administrators dedicated to learning Intergroup Dialogue (IGD) pedagogy. The FLC will work to adopt an IGD model, assessment plan, and strategy for embedding IGD theory and practice among Miami faculty, staff and administrators. Such embedding will involve the formation of peer-facilitated intergroup dialogue groups who will engage in purposeful, facilitated, dialogue across social identity difference.

Activities

  • Members will attend FLC meetings once every 3 weeks.
  • Members will research and review scholarly literature to learn about IGD theory and practice.
  • Members will evaluate different models for embedding IGD among faculty, staff, and administrators at other universities.
  • Members will evaluate various assessment tools for evaluating these models.
  • Members will have the opportunity to consult with Dr. Charles Behling, Emeritus Faculty Members at University of Michigan. Dr. Behling was the Co-Director of University of Michigan’s Center for Intergroup Relations.
  • Members will recommend an IGD model for implementation at Miami.
  • Members will recommend assessment tools for evaluation of that model.
