Join us for a discussion on the transformative and healing journeys our panelists have experienced as women of color. This event will entail an exploration of their personal and professional lives as it relates to the complicated interplay of healing and identity politics many women of color have to navigate on a daily basis.

Rebecca Nalge: Tribal Sovereignty 101

Award-winning podcaster and citizen of the Cherokee Nation, Rebecca Nagle will discuss what a federally recognized tribe is, how U.S. policy impacts the rights of tribes, and how the rights of tribes deeply impact the lived experiences of tribal citizens. This event is a Western College Legacy Seminar and is cosponsored by the Myaamia Center.

Lilleana Cavanaugh: Leadership Journey as a Latina in Public Office

Based on her personal experience, Lilly will share insights about public service from the unique perspective of her multicultural experience. She will share about how we are strengthening an ecosystem to support Latino leadership in Ohio and working towards building a more diverse pool of leaders for the future. Lilly will speak to the qualities of women leaders who are authentic, visionary, persistent and driven. She will explore the importance of advocating for Latino leadership and building wider representation in public office.

Interested in a field where activists, scholars, and educators delve deeply into the experience of psychiatric disabililty? You may have heard of ableism, but what bout sanism, or prejudice against people with the label of mental illness?
Come to this introductory and interactive workshop to learn about the exciting and emerging field of Mad Studies, an academic and activist movement that emphasizes the experience and expertise of individuals navigating various mental health issues in their daily lives.
