For over 50 years, Miami has offered a graduate degree focused on student affairs in higher education. Founded in 1963 the then titled College Student Personnel master’s program consisted of three full-time faculty and comprised coursework focused on counseling and administration. The curriculum evolved over the years, influenced by changes in the profession as well as by new theories developed via our faculty’s scholarship. In 2009, the faculty added a doctoral program and changed the name of the program to Student Affairs in Higher Education; the faculty grew to six members. At the heart of the SAHE program are a set of core values that have shaped our community of scholars for many years providing the framework for a learning environment mutually constructed by faculty and students.
