Lisa Portwood, Administrative Assistant in the department of teacher education is a member of WIPs in Hamilton -a monthly knitting/crochet/spinning/weaving group who have been getting together for about a year.

Lisa says "WIPs refers to knitting projects and it stands for works in progress but it also refers to
ourselves, as we are constant works in progress."

They meet at local restaurants and businesses in Hamilton, and their group gatherings are opportunities for women and men in the fiber community from diverse backgrounds to come together to share their love for the fiber arts.knitted M wrapped around pole

The group yarn bombed downtown Hamilton for IceFest 2019. Some members created yarn graffiti (with permission) and some made scarves and hats.  The intention was not only to decorate for IceFest but also to bring awareness to homelessness in the community.  Signs were made and attached to the poles with the scarves indicating they were free for the taking in hopes of bringing someone warmth who might need it.  Free hats were also made available during the IceFest event.

If you would like to connect with the group, you can find them on Facebook as WIPs in Hamilton and Instagram as wipsinhamilton.
