Face-to-Face Online Appointments

Face-to-face online appointments are real-time conversations between you and an ELLWC consultant via video-conferencing. As in appointments in person, you and your consultant can see one another, view your draft in the shared screen, and discuss it. No additional software is needed. The video conferencing works from your web browser. You will need a computer running a recent version of Windows or Mac OS, and a mic, a webcam, speakers, and a fast, reliable internet connection.

  1. To schedule face-to-face online appointments, use our online scheduling system.
  2. In the list of schedules, select the schedule "Face-to-Face Online."
  3. Click on an open appointment time, indicated by a white space.
  4. Fill out your Appointment Form and provide information about your writing concerns.
  5. Attach your writing, as doc or docx files, professor's guidelines, and rubrics, if you have any, to the appointment form.
  6. Click "Create Appointment." Your scheduled appointment will now appear in yellow.

Preparing for Face-to-Face Online Appointments

  1. Five to ten minutes before your appointment time, log back into your ELLWC account.
  2. Find your appointment (it will be yellow) and click on it to open up the Appointment Form.
  3. Click "Start or Join Online Consultation."
  4. Permit access to your camera and microphone by selecting "Allow" in the box that appears on the top of the screen.
  5. Directions for using the tools will appear in the document-sharing area. You should read them.
  6. Upload your draft by clicking on the arrows in the upper right corner of the screen to import an entire draft.
  7. If you cannot upload your draft, you can copy and paste it into the document-sharing area. Your writing will appear highlighted in pink. To remove highlighting, click the symbol that looks like an eye and shows "Clear Authorship Colors" when you hover.
  8. Your consultant will join you online at the start of the consultation.

Note: If your document includes complicated formatting, such as tables, that formatting will be lost when you upload your draft. If you want feedback on formatting, the consultant can view your draft attached to the Appointment Form.
