Adam Savage: Creating Your Own Career Path

Miami University President Gregory P. Crawford and the Center for Career Exploration and Success are proud to present Adam Savage: Creating Your Own Career Path. This Presidential Career and Leadership Series program will take place on Tuesday, April 16 at 7 p.m. in the Armstrong Student Center’s Harry T. Wilks Theater.

Savage, an internationally acclaimed STEM communicator and Emmy-nominated producer/host, will bust myths about career trajectory based on the lessons he has learned from each phase of his diverse career. This event features open seating, with the theater doors opening at 6:30 p.m.

Directly following the program, a book signing will take place during a reception in the Armstrong Student Center Atrium. At the reception, guests will be treated to hors d’oeuvres, dessert, and beverages.

Miami Libraries, Miami Activities and Programming, and the College of Creative Arts Student Council are partnering with Crawford and the Center for Career Exploration and Success to hold this event.

After more than a decade spent working in special effects for Lucasfilm’s revered Industrial Light and Magic studio, Savage stepped in front of the camera as Mythbusters co-host in 2002. Mythbusters ran for 13 years on the Discovery Channel, playing in over 100 countries and featuring nearly 300 episodes.

In 2009, Savage took his expertise and enthusiasm to YouTube. Tested, which explores the intersection of science, popular culture, and emerging technology, has amassed nearly seven million subscribers. He has also written extensively for national publications like Wired Magazine, Popular Mechanics, and Make Magazine, with his debut book Every Tool’s a Hammer earning a spot on the New York Times bestseller list.

Savage has a seat on the boards of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum and the Center for Policing Equity. Also a veteran stage performer and public speaker, he has toured multiple countries with his own stage shows, given TED talks garnering over 10 million views, and inspired students, early career professionals, and anyone looking to redefine with his keynote addresses about career trajectory.
