Miami University remains operational and is currently monitoring developments related to COVID-19 (novel coronavirus). During this time, please monitor this page for additional updates pertaining to graduate applicants, current graduate students and graduate faculty as they become available. Information for Applicants and Recently Admitted Students
Academic Credentials
The Graduate School recognizes that some universities in areas impacted by COVID-19 are currently closed and students may not be able to obtain transcripts and other academic credentials at this time.
Applicant Information: The Graduate School accepts unofficial transcripts along with the application and does not require official transcripts for the application review.
Recently Admitted Student Information: For Summer and Fall 2020 admitted students, the Graduate School requires final official transcript documents by the end of your first semester of study. We will post updates regarding this situation as we approach each semester accordingly.
Currently Enrolled Student Information: For graduate students currently enrolled at Miami University who still need to provide official copies of transcripts and are unable to do so due to the temporary closing of universities, please contact the Graduate School at ApplyGrad@miamioh.edu and we will work with you to extend your A-2 hold as needed.
English Proficiency
The Graduate School oversees the minimum English language proficiency requirement for graduate admission. Applicants are required to follow the requirements outlined on the English Language Proficiency webpage. If you are unable to complete the TOEFL, IELTS or PTE test due to the COVID-19 epidemic and the temporary closing of testing centers, please contact the International Admissions Coordinator at thachj@miamioh.edu to request alternative methods of testing.

GRE and GMAT Test Scores
The Graduate School does not require the GRE or GMAT scores for official admission to Miami University; however, many of our graduate programs have this requirement. If you are unable to take these exams due to the COVID-19 epidemic and the temporary closing of test centers, please contact the program of study that you have applied to. Some graduate programs are able to grant extensions to the submission of these scores or have made these exam submissions optional.

Issuance of I-20/DS-2019
Miami University is aware that the U.S. Consulate has temporarily suspended F-1 and J-1 student visa interview scheduling in some areas impacted by the COVID-19 epidemic. However, as international graduate applicants are approved for admission, students are still required to complete a request for an I-20/DS-2019 from the International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) office to allow applicants to schedule visa interviews as soon as possible after the U.S. Consulates re-open.
If you are unable to obtain a student visa and arrive in time to begin your studies in the Summer or Fall 2020 semester, please contact your graduate program for information about enrollment.
Information for Current Graduate Students
- If your students (if you are a TA) are sick, do not ask them to come in. If you are sick, do not come to campus.
- Remember to follow proper procedures for handwashing according to CDC guidelines. This is also a good site for accurate information.
- For thesis and dissertation defenses, please follow the guidance for remote exams, if needed.
- The research office will be providing guidance for grant funded activities. As long as the campus is not closed, research labs can remained open.
- If you are on assistantship, you will still be paid and you will still have assignments/tasks. Please work with your supervisor to determine if the form or function of your tasks will shift.
- Department chairs and divisional deans will be providing guidance about the delivery of lab and seminar classes.
- Large gatherings of people will be moved to online or postponed till the end of the semester.
- Please be patient and understanding. You may need to be flexible as new situations arise. We are here to support you.
