Applicants for graduate study must have earned a baccalaureate (bachelor's) degree from an accredited institution, having earned a minimum grade point average of 2.75.
If you are enrolled in a degree program at another graduate school and intend to return to that institution, you must request the Application for Transient Status from the Graduate School:
Application for Admission
To apply for a graduate degree program or continuing non-degree status at Miami University, submit the following:
Application Fee* (non-refundable)
Required if applying for a degree program, $50
Required if applying for continuing non-degree status, $20
* If Applicants qualify they may request the fee waiver option on the online application.
Official Academic Transcripts*
When completing the online Graduate School application, you will be asked to upload a PDF of your official or unofficial transcript(s) for each academic institution you list (you should list all schools attended). Students applying for Continuing Non-Degree status must have completed a bachelors degree but do not need to upload a transcript.
If you have completed your bachelors degree, you may have the official transcript from your bachelors institution sent directly to the Graduate School, and then when completing the Graduate School application, upload a note indicating this in place of a transcript. Please note that doing this may lead to a longer processing time for your application.
*If you are admitted to Miami University, you must have an official transcript from your bachelors institution and all schools attended after receiving your bachelors sent directly to the Graduate School in order to register for classes.
Test scores (if applicable)*
You may be required to take the Graduate Record Examination, the Miller Analogies Test, or the Graduate Management Admission Test. Check with your program.
*Test scores are not required for Continuing Non-degree status.
Deadlines vary by department. For the exact dates, select your area of study under Programs and Degrees.
Application for Graduate Award
If you are interested in applying for a graduate award in the form of an assistantship, indicate you would like to be considered for a graduate award when completing the application. You should also check the website of the department you are applying to for additional procedures. If you have any questions, contact the Graduate School.
