Open Writing Hours

Join others remotely to continue your writing goals this summer!

Could you use a little more motivation to work on your writing or other research projects this summer?  We're offering a new service that might give you that little push you need.

Because of the popularity of our virtual Friday Writing Hours last spring, the HCWE will sponsor Summer Virtual Writing Hours every Monday from 9:00-4:00. You can drop in when it's convenient, write for any length of time, come and go as needed, etc. The intent is for you to commit to a day/time for writingbe accountable by stating your goals, and track and celebrate your accomplishments.

To participate,

  1. Sign in on this google sheet and state your goal.
  2. When you've finished for the day, return to the spreadsheet and write in what you accomplished.
  3. Optionally celebrate yourself by posting on social media (include our tag @HCWEMiami)

Note: If you'd like to join others with video and/or chat, you can start a webex meeting before signing in, add the meeting link to the google sheet (the cell highlighted in yellow) so others can join, and be sure to invite anyone who’s already signed in.

When we resume in-person gatherings in the Fall, all faculty and graduate students are invited to our HCWE space to work on their writing. We provide free coffee, tea, and power for your laptops.

Faculty, graduate students, and faculty and dissertation writing groups are also welcome to use the Howe Writing Center space in King Library all day on Saturdays and Sundays until noon. King Library's recently renovated Faculty Reading Room (1st floor) and Graduate Student Reading Room (2nd floor) are also available any time the library is open.
