Hike-A-Thon Goes Virtual for 2020

trees, hike-a-thon

The Hike-A-Thon is an annual celebration of hiking, nature, and exploring the great outdoors and has been hosted at Miami University Natural areas every fall for the past 12 years. To keep the tradition alive we’ll host a virtual Hike-A-Thon challenge and expand from 1 day to 1 month and from 3 trails to include all local trails.

Sign up now to join the virtual challenge! Let’s see how many minutes of outdoor activity we can reach as a community between October 1 - November 1, 2020. The challenge coincides with The Phase II Grand Opening of the Oxford Area Trails; connecting the Dewitt log cabin to Peffer Park.

The challenge encourages everyone to find time to unplug, hit your local trails, and explore nature. Enjoy a hike, a bike ride, a walk, a stroll, a bird watch, or other outdoor activity and keep track of the total minutes. Challengers will log their minutes online, stay connected with fellow hikers, and earn chances to win prizes.

All campus and community members are invited to register online anytime in October. Once you register, you’ll receive a link to log your minutes of activity and weekly Hike-A-Thon emails. The emails will include self-guided activities and ideas for you, friends, or family to safely explore Miami Natural Areas, the new Oxford Area Trails, local metro parks, and more.

Miami faculty and staff can also participate in virtual Hike-A-Thon using their Healthy Miami Account. Simply log on, join the challenge with a team or solo, and sync your activity tracker device (fitbit, garmin, apple watch, etc). You’ll be able to follow along with other challengers and see your daily minutes of activity.

The Hike-A-Thon is brought to you by Miami University Employee Benefits & Wellness, Miami Recreation, City of Oxford, Enjoy Oxford, and Coalition for a Healthy Community - Oxford Area.
