Maintenance/Repair Specialist

General Function

Assists in maintaining University facilities by performing moderately complex mechanical repairs requiring some specialized training

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities—Essential Functions

  • May monitor operation of specific equipment; monitors gauges; collects needed samples; conducts required tests.
  • May monitor maintenance and repair operations for a specific facility; oversees cleaning and maintenance of facility.
  • Investigates and resolves any problems that arise during operations; performs moderately complex repairs.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and cleaning of equipment; adds any materials needed for operation.
  • Assists in disposal of waste or trash.

Reporting Relationships

Direction Received: Reports to supervisor of unit's maintenance section (i.e. Steam Plant Supervisor, Maintenance Safety Coordinator, or Area Shop Supervisor)

Direction Given: Occasional monitoring and training of student employees. May occasionally train classified employees or provide functional guidance to a group of student employees.

Minimum Requirements

Requires six months of training beyond high school in mechanical repair and maintenance and three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. May require driver's license. May require certificate of specialized training for some positions.

Working Conditions

Physical effort usually requires considerable walking, standing, and lifting materials weighing 25 to 50 pounds. Periodic assignments given which entail dealing with modestly unpleasant situations. Some possibility of personal risk due to accidents.
