Student Services Associate, Senior

General Function

Performs a variety of highly advanced administrative tasks requiring substantial discretion and independent judgment related to overseeing the daily operations of Admission, Registration and Student Financial Assistance. Directly supervises at least nine (9) classified staff.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities—Essential Functions

  • Oversee unit's operations; establishes office policies and procedures; sets goals and priorities; ensures the smooth flow of operations; enforces policies and procedures. Requires extensive knowledge of admission, registration or financial assistance.
  • Supervises nine (9) or more staff, interviews and recommends hiring; makes decisions on discipline and termination; establishes schedule and assigns tasks; monitors and evaluates performance; trains staff.
  • Maintains and/or monitors unit budget; maintains inventory of supplies; prepares requisitions and purchase orders; authorizes limited expenditures.
  • Serves as informational resource to prospective students, current students, parents, and outside agencies; investigates and resolves problems or difficulties. Has broad decision making authority and independence; interprets policies and procedures.
  • Serves as a liaison for admission, registration or financial assistance; coordinating activities with university departments and outside agencies.
  • Gathers and analyzes statistical information regarding department's programs and activities; produces reports.

Reporting Relationships

Direction Received: Reports to upper level administrator (i.e. Director, Manager, etc.)

Direction Given: Direct supervision of nine (9) or more classified employees. May supervise student workers as well.

Minimum Requirements

Requires the equivalent of an associate's degree in Business Administration and four years of admission, registration and financial assistance experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Knowledge of unit's operations, policies, and procedures
  • Knowledge of computer and office applications
  • Budgeting skills
  • Knowledge of related state and federal laws, e.g. FERPA
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with people with diverse backgrounds
  • Requires supervisory and research skills

Working Conditions

General typical office environment. May have periodic assignments which entail dealing with modestly unpleasant conditions such as near continuous use of computer.
