Brief description of project: Upgrade the ability of the Libraries to make quality digital cameras and projectors readily available to students to assist them in preparing required and other projects. This is meant to give students access to resources that they might not otherwise be able to obtain.

Does this project focus on graduate student education or graduate student life?: No

Describe the problem you are attempting to solve and your approach for solving that problem.: Many programs require students to create and present digital work; students need up to date cameras and projectors to collaborate and practice for these course related projects. The requests for digital cameras has exceeded what the library has to offer. In addition, students benefit from the library having these items for checkout as it ensures equitable access to students of all economic backgrounds.

The criteria state that technology fee projects should benefit students in innovative and/or significant ways. How would you describe the innovation and/or significance of your project?: The libraries make equipment available to students regardless of divisions/departments in which they are enrolled. The library is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week during the academic semester. Any undergrad or graduate student at the university could potentially check out this library equipment. This supports student innovation in an equitable and quality fashion.

How will you assess the project?: The project will be measured by usage statistics, which track how many times the items, are checked out. In addition interaction between staff and users will provide valuable insight into needs of students.

Have you applied for and/or received Tech Fee awards in past years?: Yes

If funded, what results did you achieve?: In fiscal year 2013 I was awarded funds for the following equipment to be checked out at King and BEST libraries- headphones, mac power cords and pico projectors. These were then and continue to be some of our most checked out items. The following statistics are for fiscal year 2016- Headphones 3,084 checkouts, Projectors 611 checkouts, powercords 12,578 checkouts, cameras 3,135 checkouts.

Did you submit a final report?: Yes

What happens to the project in year two and beyond? Will there be any ongoing costs such as software or hardware maintenance, supplies, staffing, etc.? How will these be funded?: The hardware should last for more than 2 years, and the Library Systems department will maintain it. When the items need replacement, funding could come from additional Student technology fee proposals, the Libraries or some other external source. Additional short term expenses are not anticipated.
