Authors, Accolades and Achievements

Craig Williamson, Ohio Eminent Scholar of Ecosystem Ecology, received a $263,782 grant from the Ohio Department of Higher Education, “Harmful Algal Bloom Research Initiative (HABRI) for his project “Evaluating the interactive effects of dissolved organic matter and nutrients on cyanobacteria and their toxins.” 

David Riggs, director of the Ohio Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Miami University Regionals, has been recognized by the Ohio SBDC network as its 2021 State Star. 

Riley Acton, assistant professor of economics, received a grant of nearly $79,000 from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to continue her research on funding of rural school districts.

Carolyn Hardin, assistant professor of media and culture and American studies, had a book published. Capturing Finance: Arbitrage and Social Domination is available from Duke University Press. 

For the third year in a row, Miami University Athletics has captured the Mid-American Conference Dr. Carol A. Cartwright Award for excellence in academics, athletics and citizenship. 

Scott Kenworthy, associate professor of comparative religion, wrote this piece for the Berkeley Forum about how COVID-19 has revealed tensions and fissures within the Russian Orthodox Church. As he and his co-author show in their recent book, Understanding World Christianity: Russia, the Russian Orthodox Church is internally diverse, both as an institution and as a faith community.
