Homecoming 2013: Follow #MiamiOH_HC and the red brick road back to Miami

Homecoming 2013Run for Love & Honor, follow the "Red Brick Road," join pregame festivities and connect with alumni at #MiamiOH_HC during Miami University’s Homecoming 2013 (Oct. 14-19).

The week’s activities begin with a 12:30 p.m. student-led kick off Monday, Oct. 14, at the hub, on the sidewalk in front of Farmer School of Business and at the Phi Delt Gates.

Weeklong activities culminate with an Uptown Parade beginning at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18. The parade begins at Millett parking lot and ends at the Uptown Parks with a Land of Ox festival. There’s still time to register online for the parade. Don’t miss a 7 p.m. screening of the movie, “Oz.”

For those who miss Miami’s beautiful campus, join the Run for Love & Honor Homecoming 5K at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19. This new program presented by Miami’s Alumni Association and the Miami University Student Foundation invites participants to run or walk (strollers welcome) through campus beginning and ending on the front lawn of Millett Hall. Register at miamialum.org/FLAH5K.

Then, join Tailgate Town at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, on the front lawn of Millett Hall. The RedHawks take on Akron at 1 p.m. in Yager Stadium.  For more sports fun, join the Miami’s hockey pregame party 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19.  The RedHawks take on North Dakota at 8 p.m. in the Goggin Ice Center.
Cultural events during the week include:
  • “Acapocalypse,” an a cappella all stars concert featuring student singing groups Open Fifth, Soul2Soul, the Misfitz, the Treblemakers, and Just Duet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, in Hall Auditorium. Tickets available online.
  • Freedom Summer Walking Tours: at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, and at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19. Meet in front of Clawson Hall for the 45-minute interactive tours.
  • Chamber Singers and Choraliers, directed by William Bausano, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, in Hall Auditorium. The concert is free.
  • Global Rhythms World Series, Saturday, Oct. 19. Buy tickets online at Miami box office for: • "Boundary Breakers," at 1:30 p.m. and at 3:30 p.m. at the Oxford Community Arts Center   • "Dawn to Dusk" at 7:30 p.m. in the Talawanda High School Performing Arts Center.
