Registration Restrictions and Error Messages

College Restrictions restrict courses to students admitted to a certain college (academic division), such as College of Arts and Science, College of Engineering and Computing, College of Education, Health and Society, College of Creative Arts, or Farmer School of Business. For example, a business course may be restricted to students in the Farmer School of Business. For additional information: contact the course’s departmental office.

Registration Holds

A hold can be placed on your academic record when there are issues you need to resolve with a University office before you will be permitted to register for classes, order a transcript, or receive your diploma. For more information about how to check for and resolve holds, visit our Holds on Student Accounts page.

Registration Restrictions

Some courses are restricted to assure equity in scheduling for those students for whom these courses are required. Restrictions are based on a student’s primary major, minor, or thematic sequence. Restrictions remain on courses unless the academic department removes them. Even though courses appear to be open, many have restricted seats based on academic division, major/minor, level, degree, campus, etc. Please see below for registration error messages that may appear when a course has been restricted.

Students should refer to BannerWeb to check their college, major, class, level, degree, and program information:

  • Log in to BannerWeb.

  • Select “Student Services and Financial Aid”

  • Select “Registration”

  • Select “Check your Registration Status and Your Registration Dates and Times” to check your college, major, class, level, degree, and program information.
