Miami University Regionals STEM lecture spotlights statistics of gambling

Miami University Regionals welcomes the return of its popular STEM lecture series with a talk entitled “The Mathematics of Slot Machines” on Thursday, November 4 at 7 p.m. in the Harry T. Wilks Conference Center on the Hamilton Campus.

Dr. Robert B. Davis, associate professor of Statistics at Miami University, will talk about important concepts in probability and how they apply to slot machines. Learn how while the individual players are gambling, the Law of Large Numbers guarantees that casinos are not! 

Davis has been with Miami University since 1992. His interests include statistical process control, applied probability, and probability aspects of sports and games
