Title IX
Title IX is a federal law passed in 1972 which states, “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”
Title IX applies to many of the primary functions at Miami University: admissions, academics, athletics, and student conduct are just a few of the functions most commonly associated with Title IX.
Miami University responds to any report of a Title IX violation. These violations include sexual misconduct, domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, or sexual harassment. When a Title IX violation is reported, the University will take appropriate steps to end the harassment, prevent its recurrence, and remedy the discriminatory effect. These steps may include support for students affected by the violation, an impartial investigation, and (as necessary) hearings which may result in suspension or dismissal of any student found responsible for a Title IX violation.
