UCM Internships

Each semester we offer several paid internship positions. Interns work 6-20 hours a week (up to 40 per week during Summer and Winter terms) in a creative environment. We will work around your class schedule and other commitments. Job training will be provided. Not all internships listed are available all year round. Marketing and Creative Services Internship

  • Job Title: Student Assistant
  • Job Description: Students have the opportunity to write persuasively for targeted audiences, work with photographers and designers to craft the message, and possibly shoot and edit short video clips. The student will help produce publications or prepare profiles for the Admission website. One project involves interviewing students and young alumni, writing up short profiles of them, and helping to set up photo shoots.
  • Minimum Requirements: We look for students who want to work and who have a strong background in writing (lots of journalism or English composition courses, experience in interviewing people and writing news or feature-type articles both in high school and in college).

Trademarks and Licensing Internship

  • Job Title: Student Assistant
  • Job Description:
    • Monitor social media accounts for ShopMiamiOH, and coordinate contests with retailers and licensees – includes Facebook, Twitter, and Blog
    • Assist with marketing efforts related to the licensed Miami products, Miami retailers, and opportunities to grow revenue.
    • Identify unique products and/or product lines to feature on ShopMiamiOH.com site.
    • Manage the day-to-day responsibilities of the University’s Crafter Licensing Program.
    • Monitor other collegiate licensing programs to identify and analyze opportunities where Miami can have a greater presence.
  • Minimum Requirements
    • Knowledge and coursework in business marketing, entrepreneurship, communications, public relations, fashion merchandising, and/or retail merchandising; coursework in the visual arts or design considered a plus.
    • Strong writing skills and creativity.
    • Must work well independently and with minimal instruction. Must be able to meet deadlines and complete projects.

University News Internship

  • Job Title: Student Assistant
  • Job Description: Basic news writing and news office support: Writing and researching mid-level student and faculty achievements and events and sometimes feature-length stories; and occasional story support functions such as updating departmental backgrounders.
    Sometimes we’ll also have the interns post some items to our news and recognition sites and often will ask for online research for various topics. We’ll provide supportive guidance, AP style training, and proofreading. In addition to solid writing skills, timeliness and accuracy are key for these interns. We have found it is not appropriate for a Miami Student editor to hold this position.

Web Development Internship

  • Job Title: Student Master 1
  • Job Description: Student web developer who would assist the Marketing & Creative Services Web Team with the development of University websites and other duties as needed.
  • Desired Skills and/or Experience: Strong technical skills are required to successfully perform the duties of this position. Developers are expected to already be familiar with some of the following:
    • HTML and CSS (HTML5 and CSS3 preferred)
    • Javascript, Java, and/or PHP coding languages
    • Comfortable using a plain text editor
    • Student developer will be required to create successful relationships with faculty and staff clients and be able to complete projects while working alone or with a team.
    • Experience using a Content Management System (such as Blogger, Drupal, WordPress, or other)
    • Familiarity with responsive website design
    • Familiarity with WCAG 2.0 AA accessibility standards.

Web and/or Print Design Internship

  • Job Description
    Student web and print designer who would assist the Marketing and Creative Services Web and Print Teams with the development of university websites, email marketing, digital signage, print publications and other duties as needed.
  • Minimum Requirements
    • Strong graphic design and technical skills are required to successfully perform the duties of this position.
    • Designers are expected to be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite. particularly: Photoshop, InDesign, Dreamweaver, Illustrator
    • Text Wrangler or any equivalent text editor
    • Familiarity with XHTML and CSS
    • Additionally, student designer will be required to create successful relationships with faculty and staff clients and be able to complete projects while working alone or with a team.
  • Optional Skills/Experience
    • Strong writing background
    • Understanding of Information Architecture
    • Experience using a Content Management System (such as Blogger or WordPress) Knowledge of video editing
    • Familiarity with HTML5 and responsive design
