Student designs winning Bicentennial logo
Inspired by Harrison Hall’s towers, Erin Kana ’09 has designed Miami’s winning Bicentennial logo, which will be seen on everything from Charter Day Ball invitations to T-shirts next year.
The graphic design major from Bay Village, Ohio, said she took a traditional approach to “please all who are connected with the university. The two Harrison towers are intended to symbolize the Alma Mater, ‘Old Miami, New Miami,’ and unify alumni and current students.”
Under the guidance of art professors Tom Effler and Peg Faimon, the 19 students in Effler’s Identifying Design Systems class all created logos. Pared down to six, the finalists then presented to the Bicentennial Executive Committee.
“The committee liked the clean lines and beauty of the design,” said Bicentennial coordinator Jerome Conley of Kana’s logo. “Erin’s depiction of the tower and its upward spire are both inspirational and future looking.”
