3-15-17 Weekly Three

Colleagues,

In anticipation of spring break and the final weeks of a busy semester, I am sending this message a day early and offer these thoughts: Please continue to engage your students in meaningful and rigorous learning activities to help remind them that learning is the most important priority of their Miami education.
Thank you for all that you do to ensure our students' intellectual growth and academic success.

2017 Summer Research Fellowships – Miami’s Center for Analytics and Data Science (CADS) has issued a call for proposals for their Summer Research Fellowship program. Faculty may request up to $6000 to support summer research in areas broadly related to analytics and data science. The deadline for proposals is March 27 and the call for proposals and an editable template for the program are attached. (Please note:  referenced attachments are available upon request from Provost's office.)

Miami’s Dolibois European Center (MUDEC) Opportunity - One-page course proposals for the 2018-19 teaching positions at MUDEC in Luxembourg are due by March 31. Details about the opportunity and a link to the submission information can be found here.

Inclusion Series – The second Inclusion Series session was held yesterday and I thank all those who attended and the panelists, Richard Moore, Othello Harris, Gwen Etter-Lewis, and J. Scott Brown, who led a constructive discussion around the question, “Am I a Racist? An Exploration of Race and Racial Identity in Today’s Political Atmosphere.” I hope you enjoyed the event and encourage you to provide any feedback you may have to provost@miamioh.edu.

The third event in the Inclusion Series is scheduled for Tuesday, April 11, 5:00-6:30 PM in the Shriver Dolibois Rooms. The topic “Voter Fraud: Political Rhetoric vs. Empirical Reality & Why It Matters,” will be facilitated by Bryan Marshall and includes Rachel Blum, Amanda Gillespie, Nicole Pankiewicz, Dennis A. Lierberman, and Jacqueline Johnson as panelists.

There will not be a Weekly Three over the break, but will return on Thursday, March 30. I hope you all have a wonderful spring break.

Until then,
Phyllis
