Thank you Columbus Collaboratory!

October, 8, 2018

Eighteen students met with a representative from analytics startup Columbus Collaboratory Thursday, Oct. 3 at a lunch hosted by CADS and FSB Career Center.

The company, which performs IT security and analytics services for several Columbus-based companies, sent its Chief Analytics Innovator, Brian Sampsel, to talk with students about the company’s purpose, projects and culture. Students were able to ask questions during the event and talk with Sampsel afterwards.

Sophomore analytics major Nathan Connor said that the event exceeded the expectations that he had for it before going in.

"That definitely increased my interest in analytics because it showed me the long term success of it," Connor said.

He explained that Sampsel’s discussion of how the company uses different analytics techniques allowed him to see the connection between his coursework now and how he might use it in a real world setting in the future.

"I’m definitely going to be interested in following up," Connor said. “Being exposed to things like that benefits younger students in the sense of seeing where this progression is taking them.”

Columbus Collaboratory’s founding partners are AEP, Cardinal Health, Huntington, L Brands, Battelle, Ohio Health, and Nationwide. It is the result of Columbus 2020’s effort to promote research, security and idea sharing between companies. Sampsel said the startup will soon be looking to fill both full time and internship positions.
