On Friday March 31st, Dr. JP Baldwin and Dr. Thomas Fisher, faculty members at Miami University, traveled to Purdue University for their 2017 DataFest. Purdue University, like Miami University, is one of 33 universities hosting DataFest this calendar year. The two went to Purdue to learn about how different schools run DataFest and provide unbiased judges for the team presentations.

Dr. Baldwin and Dr. Fisher were asked to be apart of a panel of Purdue judges who selected the teams based on Best Visualization, Best Use of Outside Data, and Best in Show. To continue to foster the inter-collegiate experience, Mark Ward, one of Purdue’s associate professors joined Miami’s DataFest panel of 6 judges the weekend of April 7-9.

Dr. Baldwin states, “DataFest has grown tremendously over the past few years. Therefore it is vital we continue to improve and refine the organization and oversight of this event. The cross-collaboration between Miami and Purdue has been a great success in this regard -- we can now continue building on one another in our respective competitions.”
