Expansions and Improvements
Phase 1
In 2012, Miami committed funds for Phase I construction which elevated the equestrian center 8 feet, adding 60,000 cubic yards of fill to raise the site out of the flood plain.
Site Improvements
- A 14,000 square foot barn expansion that is equipped with a fire suppression sprinkler system
- 58 stalls one of which is equipped with cameras to provide 24 hour watch on a horse as needed
- Four wash stalls with hot & cold water, two of which are equipped with radiant heat
- A team tack room with show trunks, lockers and access to personal saddle racks
- A school tack room with 45 saddle racks and 120 bridle racks
- A laundry room with two industrial washers and dryers and ice machine
- 150' x 300' outdoor riding riding arena with state of the art of footing, irrigation and drainage
The current site upgrades have been designed to support an indoor arena without major changes to the existing footprint.
Phase 2
In 2019 the university received a lead gift to begin the indoor arena construction.
Construction was completed in June of 2021 and includes:
-120 by 250 indoor riding arena
-Bleacher seating for 150 spectators with radiant heat and fans
-3 large fans over the riding surface

Miami Horse Herd
The equestrian center is home to approximately 50 horses that offer a broad spectrum of educational opportunities in dressage, western and hunt seat riding. The horse herd is made up of a variety of breeds such as warm-bloods, quarter horses, thoroughbreds, appaloosas and paints. The University strives to maintain a top-of-the-line horse herd to serve a variety of levels of riders.
Donate Your Horse
Many of the horses are generous donations that have been competitively shown or are brought along with the guidance of the Miami University Equestrian Program. If you have interest in donating a horse to Miami please contact Heather Pinnick burrahe@miamioh.edu for additional information.
