Theodore Peters (Assistant Dean)

photo of Theodore PetersTed is the chief divisional advisor and point person for student academic services in the College of Arts & Science. As such, he serves as an advocate for students and coordinates initiatives aimed at improving the student experience with regard to academic advising. Ted directs the undergraduate Academic Advising Office & University Studies Office and often represents the College of Arts & Science across the university. He began his professional career at Miami in 1998 as a visiting instructor in English, then became the First-Year Academic Advisor in charge of creating the Celebrate the Arts living-learning community. After a year of living and working as a photographer in San Diego, Ted returned to Miami in 2001 working in the CAS Academic Advising Office. In 2011 he was promoted to Senior Academic Advisor and in 2015 to Assistant Dean. Ted completed his undergraduate work at Miami University - Literature and Creative Writing, with English honors – and his master's degree at The University of London, King's College, specializing in 19th century British poetry.

Christa Branson (Senior Academic Advisor)

photo of Christa BransonChrista came to Miami as a student in 1992, and worked full-time at the Hamilton campus while earning a Bachelor of Arts in sociology. In 2002 Christa resumed her role as a Miami student and earned a Master of Science in college student personnel. She returned to full-time employment in 2004 as coordinator of academic advising for the Office of Residence Life and New Student Programs. Christa joined the CAS academic advising staff in 2006, and was promoted to Senior Academic Advisor in 2015.

Erin Brown (Academic Advisor)

photo of Erin BrownErin earned his Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies and a minor in Sociology with Kent State University in 2018. He continued on to obtain his Master's of Education in College Student Personnel from Ohio University and graduated in May 2020. As Erin worked to earn his M.Ed he worked as a graduate assistant in the Allen Student Advising Center within University College. Erin joined the CAS advising team mid-September of 2020.

Madeleine Hood (Academic Advisor)

a photo of Madeleine HoodMadeleine graduated from North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University, also known as A&T in Greensboro, North Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology in 2015. She continued her educational journey at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, where she earned her Master of Public Administration degree in 2017. During her time at Old Dominion University, she worked as a graduate assistant in the Strome College of Business where she worked in both the Dean’s office and academic advising office. Her focus was working with incoming freshmen as well as transfer students. Madeleine joined the CAS advising team in August 2021.

Virginia "Ginny" Lubanski (Senior Academic Advisor)

photo of Virginia EngwallGinny graduated from Ohio Dominican University in Columbus, Ohio with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 2011. She continued her education at Miami University and earned a Master of Science degree in Student Affairs and Higher Education in 2015. Ginny joined the CAS academic advising team in July 2015.

Kristan Kanorr (Senior Academic Advisor)

photo of Kristan KanorrKristan earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sport Administration with a minor in Marketing in 2008 followed by a Master of Arts degree in Student Affairs Administration in Higher Education with a minor in Executive Development for Public Service in 2010, both from Ball State University. She started her career in higher education at Indiana University East in 2012, working in a variety of areas including: academic advising for exploratory students, first-year student success coaching, student-athlete academic progress, orientation planning, and instructing first-year seminar. Kristan joined the CAS academic advising staff in March of 2015.

Kurt Olausen (Academic Advisor)

photo of Kurt OlausenKurt earned his B.A. from Dickinson College with majors in German and Italian Studies,  in 1990, his M.Ed. in Counselor Education from the University of Virginia, in 1994, and his Ed.D. in Higher Education Administration from North Carolina State University, in 2007. Prior to coming to Miami, he worked in Study Abroad at Eastern Illinois University, the University of Cincinnati, Duke University, and James Madison University. He has also taught ESL at the University of Cincinnati and Berlitz Language Services.

Amy Ratcliff (Academic Advisor)

photo of Amy RatcliffAmy graduated from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio with a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education and an additional teaching certificate in Elementary Education in 1998. She continued her education at Wright State and earned her M.Ed. in Student Affairs in Higher Education Administration in 2003, while also working as an Advisor to the fraternities and sororities on campus. Prior to coming to Miami, Amy served as a Senior Academic Advisor for Health Sciences Programs at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio for many years. She joined the CAS advising team in August, 2021.

Joe Sacco (Academic Advisor)

photo of Joe SaccoJoe completed his undergraduate education at Thomas More College (now University) in Crestview Hills, KY where he obtained a B.A. in Secondary Education/Social Studies in 2003. He also earned minors in both History and Philosophy. He went on to serve as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Kent State where he earned his M.A. degree in Philosophy (specializing in Ethics) in 2007. Joe has over a decade of experience in higher education as both an instructor and advisor. Prior to coming to Miami, Joe served as an Academic Advisor at Cincinnati State for six years. He joined the CAS advising team in June 2019.

Don Sebera (Academic Advisor)

photo of Don SeberaDon graduated from Ohio University, earning both a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master's Degree in Counseling. He has worked in the community college and university environments as an academic advisor; as well as serving as the Director of a college disability services office, and teaching high school special education. Don joined the CAS office in September of 2018.

Jacinta Spinola (Academic Advisor)

photo of Jacinta SpinolaJacinta started at Miami as a student in 2009 and graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Education in 2013. She went on to teach middle school and high school English Language Arts both domestically and internationally. After joining the Army Reserves in 2018, she obtained her Master of Science in Student Affairs in Higher Education with a concentration in Diversity, Equity, and Culture. She also gained Graduate Certificates in both College Teaching and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Jacinta joined the CAS advising team in August of 2021.

Maryanne White (Academic Advisor)

photo of Maryanne WhiteMaryanne graduated from Ohio University with a B.S. degree in Biological Sciences, Pre-Physical Therapy. In 2004, she earned her M.Ed. in Higher Education from Loyola University Chicago. Maryanne has worked professionally in a variety of student affairs functional areas including academic advising, new student orientation, admissions, student diversity, student union programming, alcohol and other drug awareness and residence life. Maryanne joined the CAS advising team in June 2019.
