International Student Advising

Miami University is home to about 500 undergraduate international students from over 60 countries around the world. We work closely with the Office of International Education and the Office of New Student Programs to welcome new international students to the Oxford campus and assist them as they begin their studies.

The orientation program coordinated by the Office of International Education is mandatory for all international students and addresses important issues like:

  • immigration
  • taxes
  • social security
  • health insurance
  • tuberculosis (TB) test

You will also meet current students, faculty and staff, as well as other international students, as you familiarize yourself with the Oxford campus.

Advising Sessions

Included in the international orientation program is an advising session where we will help you understand university requirements and register for classes.

Graduation Requirements

All Miami students complete the Global Miami Plan for Liberal Education (Miami General Bulletin), which consists of foundation courses, a thematic sequence and a senior capstone. Students pursuing a major in the College of Arts and Science also complete a set of divisional requirements (Miami General Bulletin), specific courses for their major, and elective hours.

Students With Previous Credit

Miami accepts credit earned through the Advanced Placement Program, International Baccalaureate Program, and for coursework completed at another accredited university.

Common Concerns for International Students

We often get questions from international students about their English and Math placements, and their foreign language requirement. The answers to these questions vary and are based upon the individual student's academic history; you will work an advisor during orientation to address these concerns.
