Make an Appointment

Our office remains open and ready  to help  students with their advising and registration needs. Due to COVID-19 and the health and wellbeing of our community, advising appointments will be conducted remotely using Google Chat and Google Meet. While a camera is not required, it is preferred.

  • Users who anticipate or experience a disability-related barrier to using Google Chat or Google Meet are encouraged to contact to request reasonable accommodation. Webex may be used as an alternative platform for hearing accommodations.
  • If you are unable to access Google, please contact us (513-529-3031) to request an appointment via a different platform.

If you do not currently have a declared major in the College of Arts and Science, please contact us (513-529-3031) to request an appointment, as our online system will not allow you access to our schedules.

Scheduling an Appointment

If you do not have a declared Arts and Science major, you cannot sign up for an appointment online and must contact us (513-529-3031; to schedule.

To schedule an appointment, visit

  1. Choose "Schedule an Appointment," located beneath the Miami University logo.
  2. Under Appointment Type, select "Advising & Academic Support."
  3. Under Location, select "Oxford - College of Arts and Sciences Appointment."
  4. Under options, select "CAS - General Advising." Then select "Next." 
  5. Confirm the location as "College of Arts and Science Advising Office - 146 Upham Hall."
  6. Select an advisor:
    • If there is a specific advisor with whom you would like to meet, choose the box "Any Staff" and then select the advisor's name from the list. His/her name should populate the box, then choose "Next."
    • If you do not have a preferred advisor or would like to see a wider range of appointment times, choose "Next."
  7. You will now select the date and time of day for your appointment. Once you have done so, choose "Next" to continue.
  8. The next page will outline the details of your appointment. Please add your telephone number to the box provided, as well as a note indicating what you would like to discuss.
  9. Choose "Confirm Appointment" to finalize the appointment.

Reminder, your appointment call will take place via Google Chat* unless you have made alternative arrangements.

Signing up for a Drop-In

Drop-in advising is available January 19-22 from 2 to 4 pm and January 25-29 from 8 am to noon Eastern Time.

  • Drop-in hours are intended to address scheduling questions and immediate concerns. If you wish to discuss bigger picture topics or plan for future semesters, you must schedule an appointment.
  • Drop-in meetings will be initiated via Google Chat, and then conducted using Google Meet. Please let us know if you need to use a different platform.
  • There are typically multiple advisors available during drop-in advising and students are met with on a first-come, first-served basis. Wait times may vary, but during peak hours can exceed 45 minutes.

To sign up:

  1. Login to Navigate. If your home screen does not show Student Home, choose the triangle drop-down menu and select Student Home.
  2. Choose Schedule an Appointment.
  3. For Appointment type, select Advising & Academic Support.
  4. Choose Oxford - College of Arts and Sciences Drop-In as the location.
  5. The option you should select is Drop-In Appointment.
  6. Choose Next.
  7. To confirm the location, select College of Arts and Science Advising Office - 146 Upham Hall. (The location must be confirmed even though the drop-in is virtual).
    IMPORTANT: do NOT come to the Advising Office in person!
  8. Leave the box blank (Any Staff) and choose Next.
  9. Find the Drop-In Availability bar (yellow bar) and choose the View Drop-In Times button.
  10. You cannot select a specific advisor to speak with, so select Drop-In Online.
  11. Once you choose Drop-In Online, you will be added to the queue of students waiting for an advisor.
  12. Launch Google Chat ( and an academic advisor will message you there.

If you need to cancel your drop-in:

  1. Return to your Navigate Student Homepage (choose the Home icon).
  2. Choose the red Check Out box if you need to cancel your drop-in before attending.

Cancelling/Rescheduling an Appointment

To cancel an appointment, go to

  1. On the right side of the screen, there is a section titled Upcoming Appointments, and you should see your appointment listed there. Choose CAS - General Advising to access the appointment information.
  2. In the bottom, left of the Manage Appointment dialogue box, choose Cancel My Attendance.
  3. Select a reason from the drop-down and enter any comments.
  4. Choose Mark As Cancelled.

To reschedule, follow the instructions for cancelling an appointment, then schedule a new appointment using the instructions above.

Google Chat Instructions for Speaking with an Advisor:

  1. Go to
  2. Choose "Sign In" to login to your Miami Gmail account.
  3. You will receive an invitation to chat from the advisor.
  4. Open the invitation and select "Accept"
  5. Once accepted, the advisor will request that you join a video call via the chat.
  6. Open the video call by clicking on the "Join Video Meeting" icon.
  7. Choose "Join Now" to begin the call from the "Ready to Join?" menu.
  8. You will need to "Allow" Google Chat to access your microphone and camera.
