Dr. Laura Thompson is a Visiting Assistant Professor with the Department of Anthropology. A cultural anthropologist focusing on the study of religion, she has strong interests in Islamic studies, blasphemy and apostasy, Affect Theory, and Postcolonial Studies. She has conducted fieldwork in Tunisia, and culminating in her dissertation "Who Speaks for the Sacred? The Politics of Blasphemy in Tunisia from the 19th Century." She received her Ph.D. from Harvard University.
