Assistantships and Funding
Nearly all applicants admitted to the MA and MFA programs in Composition and Rhetoric, Creative Writing, and Literature and the Ph.D. programs in Composition and Rhetoric and Literature are awarded Teaching Assistantships.
A number of other Administrative and Research Assistantships and Associateships are also available. Many combine such responsibilities with teaching, and they are awarded on a competitive basis to students in the department. Most Calls for Applications are posted during second semester for assistantship positions beginning the following academic year.
Doctoral students may apply for Dissertation Fellowships sponsored by the Graduate School and the Department of English.
Those not funded by assistantships in English may seek positions in other units, such as Residence Life, King Library, the Publications Office, or other administrative offices or departments. If you do not wish to be considered for a teaching assistantship in English, or if no assistantship in English is available, please contact Sarah Broome, the Graduate Program Administrative Assistant, for additional information on opportunities beyond the department.
