Scholarships

Thanks to the continued support of donors to the department, we are able to award endowed scholarships to quite a number of students each year. The scholarships are, with two exceptions, open to all majors in the English Department: Creative Writing, Literature, Linguistics, and Professional Writing.

Students will apply for all scholarships at once via a single application form. Submission deadline is April 3, 2020.

Requirements and Eligibility

  • rising juniors and seniors (= 64+ earned credit hours at the beginning of Fall 2020) from all majors in English can apply
  • seniors graduating in May or August 2020 are not eligible as the scholarship will count towards the 2020-21 academic year
  • submit a writing sample, complete paper or excerpt, 5-7 pages double-spaced or its equivalent
  • submit a brief contextualizing note
  • file a FAFSA with the Office of Student Financial Assistance (this helps determine level of need for some scholarships).
