Jon Rutter

Jon Rutter received his doctorate in Communication Studies/Rhetoric from the University of Texas-Austin in 2001. Before joining the Miami University faculty in 2011, Rutter taught courses in rhetoric, public address and philosophy to a wide variety of student populations, including prisoners, nurses, and soldiers. At Miami, he currently teaches COM 135: Introduction to Public Expression and Critical Inquiry and COM 437: Advocacy in Contemporary America. Rutter is generally interested in the history of ideas and is committed to the medium of speech. He has published articles in the realm of popular culture, and his academic interests converge at the intersection of rhetoric, culture, and politics.
