Professor Emeritus of Media and Communication

Bob VogelBob Vogel has been teaching at Miami since 1973. He became an emeritus professor in 2009, but still teaches a freshman seminar each spring. Vogel pioneered the use of both print and instructional television in teaching communication skills. He received a prestigious EDUCOM Award in 1992 for his work at Miami to create an interactive videodisc on multicultural awareness, which received national attention. Vogel was Miami’s first director of faculty development in learning technologies. He received the alumni Effective Educator Award in 1995, and - with his wife, Mary - the 2002 Miami Parents of the Year Award. Vogel worked for many years in the interdisciplinary Laws, Hall and Associates program and with the Miami Tribe in Oklahoma. He earned a Ph.D. in communication at Purdue, a master's in sociology at the University of Kentucky, and a bachelor's in sociology at St. Lawrence University.
