Like professionals in the worlds they seek to enter, students in Miami Universitys Department of Media, Journalism & Film embraced COVID-19 as a topic of inquiry in the second half of the spring semester.
Students in all five of MJFs programs turned attention to exploring the global pandemic, with multiple outcomes in and out of class.
Two of MJFs longtime staffers are retiring this year Steve Beitzel and Kim Hensley.
Beitzel, chief engineer, has worked at Miami for 25 years. Before then, he worked as a director, editor and engineer for television stations in Indiana, Illinois and Ohio. Beitzel has been a steady force in Williams Hall, always making sure all equipment is in tiptop shape and also teaching students how to use the equipment in the studio. He also provided tours to incoming students and their families.
Hensley is the staffer you might remember seeing in MJFs main office. She is a master administrative assistant who works with students and with special programs like Inside Hollywood and Inside Washington. She has worked at Miami more than 30 years with the last 25 at MJF. Before then, she worked in the math and statistics department.
Hefner Museum FYRE students were awarded a grant from M.I.A.M.I WOMEN Giving Circle to update and revitalize the Tree Walk.Ultimately, they aim to make Miamis living tree collection an aesthetic and intellectual asset of value to everyone on and off campus.
The Miami University Bateman team has received an Honorable Mention in the Public Relations Student Society of Americas (PRSSA) national case study competition.
Miami University students won nine first-place awards and another nine finalist awards in the annual Mark of Excellence competition hosted by the Society of Professional Journalists.
