Teaching Interests

I teach courses in the areas of clinical and cultural psychology. All of my classes include a multicultural perspective, with consideration to how issues of diversity and culture are intertwined with various aspects of psychology. I encourage experiential learning and provide opportunities for students to develop critical thinking skills and engage actively in their learning.

Research Interests

My research focuses broadly on cultural competence, psychological well-being, and social engagement internationally as well as in the United States. I am particularly interested in the development of cultural competence, exploring pedagogical strategies and other factors that increase cultural competence in students. I am also interested in psychological well-being in international relocation, conducting mixed-method studies in English and Japanese to evaluate the influence of social support, family dynamics, and cultural immersion in the process of relocating internationally and repatriating to the home country.
