Gina Petonito earned her PhD from Syracuse University in 1992. Prior to working at Miami University, Dr. Petonito was a tenured Associate Professor at Western Illinois University. Her current research critiques the use of gerontechnologies, specifically those that embody surveillance practices, to help people with dementia age in place. She also employs a constructionist approach to explore the ways claims-makers construct enemies in conflicts that span several US historical periods. Dr. Petonito teaches introduction to sociology, family, gender, deviance, race and ethnicity, and gender and aging.
