Kate de Medeiros (Professor, O'Toole Professor Gerontology), received her PhD in gerontology from the University of Maryland Baltimore County in 2006. Her research interests are concerned with cultural structures affecting the experience of aging, autobiographical writing, friendships in later life. In 2008, de Medeiros received one of only four Brookdale Leadership in Aging Research. Her research has been funded by the Alzheimer's Association and the National Institute of Aging. In addition to publishing numerous research articles and book chapters, she has authored Narrative Gerontology in Research and Practice (Springer) and The Short Guide to Aging and Gerontology (Policy Press), co-authored Global Aging: Comparative Perspectives on Aging and the Life Course (2nd ed), and is co-editors for Critical Humanities and Ageing: Forging Interdisciplinary Dialogues. In addition, she has served as Governing Council Chair for the North American Network of Aging Studies and President of the Ohio Association of Gerontology and Education.
