Sociology of Law

Reading, critical thinking, and exposure to social contexts in which crime, the law, and legal systems operate are essential skills in law school. Our minor in The Sociology of Law focuses on these very skills, and they have served Miami students well in recent years. Graduates from the sociology program have gone on to prestigious law schools, including Ohio State University, Penn State University, The University of Texas, Cleveland State University, Loyola University (Chicago), The University of Cincinnati, Case Western Reserve University, and The University of Pennsylvania
Requirements
The minor consists of three or four required courses and additional hours to be chosen from a set of electives for a total of at least 18 hours. A grade point average of 2.50 must be maintained for all courses in the minor.
This minor should be declared before or during your junior year. You may pursue only one pre-professional sociology minor. All courses for the minor (excluding field work) must be taken for a grade.
Please consult your Bulletin year for specific course requirements.
