Emily Allbery Wirthwein (she/her) is a registered art therapist (ATR) and licensed professional counselor (LPC) in Indianapolis, IN. Emily has been a pediatric medical art therapist and graduate intern supervisor at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health since 2014. She has spent much of her career helping hospitalized children and their families cope with chronic and life-threatening illness. Emily has experience with a multitude of populations including cystic fibrosis, behavioral health, hematology and oncology, and transplant. Her ancillary contributions have included creating standards for innovative legacy pieces for families as well as a thriving graduate intern and volunteer programming to spread the positive benefits of artmaking across the hospital landscape.

Emily earned her MA in Art Therapy at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) and her BA in Art Education at Miami University; where she is now an adjunct instructor. Emily has taught Miami’s Introduction to Art Therapy course since Fall of 2017 and co-created the department's co-major/minor in pre-art therapy with Dr. Stephanie Danker. Emily continues to be passionate about advising and helping undergraduates and alumni explore the field of art therapy. She has also been asked to speak countless times on the intersections of art therapy and art education at both the regional and national level.
