Rejoice in newfound uses for watercolor and acrylic painted papers! We will spend some time on preparation of papers, painting with various art materials and trying unique methods of art techniques, even some collage. This fun-filled class with use the elements and principles of design to produce creative and award-winning paintings. Some previous painting experience is helpful but all levels are welcome and able to have success.

Supply List

Supplies are subject to change. A final list will be emailed to each participant before the first day of class.

BRUSHES:

  • 3 - Flat Watercolor Sable brushes, size 3/4", 1/2" and 1/4". Or set of several sized flat brushes. Available at Walmart or art store.
  • 5 - Round watercolor Sable brushes, Size #2, #4, #6, #8, and #10. Or set of several sized round brushes. Available at Walmart or Art store.

MATERIALS:

  • 1 SET OF GOOD WATERCOLOR PAINTS, AT LEAST 12 COLORS. I.E. GRUMBACHER OR EQUIVALENT.
  • 1- 8 OZ. CONTAINER - ACRYLIC MATTE MEDIUM - ANY BRAND, Available at Walmart or art stores.
  • 1 -BOTTLE F&W brand WHITE INK, AVAILABLE AT ANY ART STORE OR ONLINE AT BLICK ARTS.
  • 1 - Small eye dropper for use with ink. Can be recycled one. 1- Palette with section for mixing paints.
  • 1 - Roll paper towels.
  • 1 - Small water mister
  • 1 - Sketch Book for planning
  • 1 - water container to clean brushes while working; can be reusable food container.

NOTE: ALL SURFACES AND SUBSTRATES TO PAINT ON AND A MAT TO FIT THE SIZES WILL BE PROVIDED BY THE INST. ALONG WITH OTHER MISCELLANEOUS PAPERS AND SUPPLIES, FOR A FEE OF $50 PER STUDENT PAYABLE BY CASH ON THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS.

Studio Fee

All workshops have a studio fee. Fees are collected at the end of the workshop and payable by check or credit card. MU no longer accepts cash.

About the Instructor

Billie Shelburn is currently the Resident Artist at John C. Campbell Folk School, Brasstown, N.C. Her award winning work has been represented in galleries in the U.S. and international venues. She has worked on several art-related Boards i.e. Georgia Watercolor Society and others. She has taught all levels of educational facilities including various levels of College, Universities, elementary school, Museums of Art, and private art related venues. A founding member of ART Station in Stone Mtn, Georgia, that is now in it’s 35th year providing multi-disciplinary art classes and exhibitions along with original theater programming.
